Octoberfest- 200 Years and Counting

200 hundred years ago today Oktoberfest was created. It was actually a wedding celebration held on behalf of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. They wanted the commoners to help celebrate this auspicious occasion. What a way to celebrate a wedding anniversary! Don't you wish your wedding anniversary would be celebrated every year by millions of people like this festival has.

Over the years, it has truly lost its meaning. I am sure that if you poll people celebrating this event they would have no idea of its origins, at least the people from the US. It may be different in Germany. Any way it is just an excuse for all of us to celebrate the first food product to ever have a consumer protection law (1516). Beer: the only beverage you rent instead of buy.

What is your favorite beer? An Ale or Lager? Is it a Porter, Stout, Lambic, Wheat, Pale Ale, Brown or Dark Ale? Which is your favorite?

When it comes to beer, I am truly a novice. I occasionally drink it, but I am not an aficionado. I just thought that it is an occasion that should be celebrated. It is not every year that you can celebrate a 200 year anniversary. Open that bottle, can or tap that keg today on behalf of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. Happy Anniversary you two!!
